WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Body/Physical/Holistic Therapy recognises and encourages the connection between body and mind, and its importance in individual health and wellbeing, emotional and physical. We offer a range of therapies to support individuals through different life stages and challenges.

Acupuncture
with Kate Keeley

Acupuncture is one of the longest established forms of healthcare in the world and involves the insertion of very fine single-use needles at strategic points on the body for therapeutic effect.

Traditional Chinese Medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy (known as “Qi”) through pathways in the body. Ill health occurs where there is an imbalance in the body’s energy, and acupuncture can influence this energetic imbalance and help to optimise health.

Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain, however it is often used for relaxation, to boost the immune system, increase energy levels, improve sleep and to aid fertility.

Zen Shiatsu
with Gillian Farrell

Zen Shiatsu, a form of massage or body therapy that was developed in Japan during the 20th century by Shizuto Masunaga, is based in Mindfulness and rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is traditionally received through the clothes, as you lie on a plinth or a futon on the floor.

Diagnosis is made by carrying out a comprehensive consultation and by tuning into zones on your belly (or Hara as it is known in Japan).

Gentle pressure from fingers, hands, forearms and knees is given along your energy Channels and Meridians as well as stretching and mobilisations of your joints, much like those practiced in yoga. This helps to balance areas of Excess and Deficiency and increases your sense of vitality, resilience and wellness.

Holistic Massage
with Gillian Farrell

Holistic Massage is a body therapy that applies various levels of pressure to your body via the hands or forearms. Different techniques are used to bring about different effects and are applied to your skin and tissues with the use of oil or wax.

A massage session may also include rotations and stretching of your joints and limbs, energy work, visualization and breathing techniques.

In holistic massage it is understood that each part affects the whole. How your body is treated and approached has an effect on your senses and emotions as well as your musculature.

When you receive supportive touch, your breathing tends to slow down and deepen and your blood pressure drops, your digestion relaxes and you can enter deep states of rest. Feel good hormones are released in your body that help reduce pain and promote your sense of wellbeing.

BENEFITS

Regular body therapy will help you maintain good health and build a stronger and more positive relationship with yourself, your body and your energy.

It will offer relief from many symptoms and conditions such as pain and stiffness, nausea, fatigue, menstrual issues, anxiety and depression - the list goes on.

It can also help support you in the many life transitions that women go through.
